Bougherras Vow

January 20, 2009

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra insists he will not quit Ibrox because he does not want to jeopardise his international career.

The former Charlton centre-back snubbed West Brom in the summer in order to join Rangers because of his desire to play European football.

But Rangers – who crashed out of this season’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers to FBK Kaunas – has since been linked with a move elsewhere as his club reportedly look to raise funds.

Skysports.com recently revealed that Newcastle are understood to be tracking the Algeria international, but Bougherra is not keen on a move because he does not want to ruin his World Cup dream.

Desire

When asked about his desire to stay in Glasgow by an Algerian newspaper, Bougherra said: “There are several reasons for this.

“The main one is I do not want to move clubs just a few weeks before we start the next World Cup qualifiers.

“I want to keep my place in the squad. It is important to me.

“I do not want to jeopardise that by changing clubs. In addition, I play for a great club called Glasgow Rangers.

“This is where I have managed to raise the standard of my game and I think I can improve even more by staying here.”

Hemdani wants to go

January 20, 2009

But is all too happy to sit in the stands and receive 16k a week.

Brahim Hemdani says it is ‘certain’ that he will leave Rangers at the end of the season and he is hoping for a move to Spain.

The Algerian midfielder has not featured for Gers this season and his contract at Ibrox expires in the summer.

Reports suggest that Rangers are keen to shed Hemdani from their wage bill, although the 30-year-old is happy to wait until the summer to leave the Old Firm giants.

“My contract ends this year and what is certain is I will leave Rangers to look for a new challenge,” said Hemdani in the Daily Record.

“The Scottish league is pretty boring outside of Old Firm games.

“There is very little real competition and the fact the club didn’t qualify for the Champions League made things worse.

“The time is coming for me to leave and begin a new chapter in my career. Spain is the place that really appeals.”

Beasley wants to stay

January 15, 2009

DaMarcus Beasley has spoken of his determination to fight for his future at Rangers.

The United States midfielder’s future is up in the air, as reports suggest Rangers are ready to offload him in January.

Beasley has been a fringe player this term and is aware of the club’s desire to bring in funds, but is keen to prove himself in Glasgow.

“Nobody has told me I’m free to go but I know the gaffer has said in the papers he’ll have to consider offers for players who aren’t playing if they are made,” said Beasley.

“I understand I fit the bill in that respect just now and it’s up to me to show I’m worth keeping here.

“I love being here. I love the club and I’m hopeful I can get back in and play my part in the team.

“I don’t have any desire to go somewhere else because I’m happy here and I don’t intend to leave unless someone tells me I have to.

“It would be really hard to move on. There’s a lot of history here and we saw last season that great things can be done at Rangers.

“Leaving that behind would be difficult but I know I’ve got to look out for myself first and foremost. If I’m not playing here, I should move on.”

Burke completes Cardiff switch

January 9, 2009

Scotland winger Chris Burke has completed his move from

Rangers to Cardiff City on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old, who has two caps for his country, is a former player of the year at Ibrox, but illness and injury have restricted his recent appearances.

Burke had a rare first-team outing against Inverness at the weekend and passed medical in Cardiff on Thursday.

The Bluebirds were looking to quickly replace loan signing Wayne Routledge, who left Ninian Park for QPR last week.

Burke, who is out of contract in the summer, has made just two substitute appearances for Rangers this season.
